Background of Malaysia’s bourse
Bursa Malaysia was once known as the KLSE or Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. This dates to as far back as 1930 during the setting up of the Singapore Stockbrokers’ Association. This would be the first formal securities business organization in Malaysia before it was changed to the Malayan Stockbrokers’ Association 7 years later. In 1960, it became the Malayan Stock Exchange where public trading of shares then started. This was at a time when direct telephone lines were used in the trading rooms in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
4 years after that, it became the Stock Exchange of Malaysia before changing to become Stock Exchange of Malaysia and Singapore a year later which will then be further divided between Malaysia and Singapore in 1973. In 2004, it became Bursa Malaysia.
