Under the wings of the Kuok Group is Jerneh Asia Berhad, one of the major investment holding companies in Malaysia. This is one of the companies which are run by the richest man in Malaysia, Mr Robert Kuok Hock Nien, who fully owns the company. Jerneh Asia Berhad is essentially an insurance company where its most notable products are mainly in the insurance sector that encompasses general, life and takaful, reinsurance broking as well as credit leasing.
Today, Jerneh is very well-known among Malaysians where it has extended its services to the people from all walks of life. Apart from Malaysia, Jerneh also operates through its subsidiaries in other countries that include Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines. Seen as a smaller company as compared to the other more ‘international’ brands like Prudential and such, Jerneh has stood through the test of time and several episodes of economy crises and is today one of the preferred insurance companies due to its locality.
In Hong Kong, China and the Philippines, Jerneh is mainly involved in corporate insurance solutions managed under the Taishan Insurance Brokers Limited and Taishan Insurance Brokers Philippines and KRM Reinsurance Brokers Philippines. It is also involved in fund management through its associate company, Areca Capital Sdn Bhd while Jerneh Asia Reinsurance basically is involved as an offshore composite reinsurer agent for companies around the ASEAN region. On top of that, Jerneh is also involved in offering hire purchase and the financing of capital equipment for various industries in the SMI sector through their Jerneh Credit Leasing arm.
Apart from the ASEAN region, Jerneh is also involved in businesses in other parts where it is partners with the largest composite insurer in Italy through Generali where it would enter JV agreements with SM Group and the Banco De Oro Banking Group for the Philippines. It also bought over PT Asuransi Jiwa Arta Mandiri Prima in Indonesia while through it is involved in the Takaful services through its part in the consortium with HSBC Insurance and the Employees Provident Fund Board of Malaysia.
