Lim Teck Meng is in the top 40 richest people in Malaysia through a very unique business. He founded Scientex Berhad and brought it from the ground up to where it is today. He is ranked 32nd by Forbes in the richest Malaysians list.
Lim is the Managing Director of Scientex which is mainly involved in the consumer packaging business. The company started out as Scientific Textile Industries Sdn Bhd with around 40 employees. Then, it was involved in a different type of business before Lim changed it to what it is today.
The company was set up in 1968 and had in 1990 gone public. From 40 employees, Scientex has grown to employ more than 2,000 people. Besides its main consumer packaging business, Scientex has been hugely successful in other sectors including property development which has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years.
Today, Scientex continues to enjoy success where it operates 9 manufacturing plants in Malaysia and abroad in Vietnam. It recently breached the RM1 billion mark in terms of revenue which is has got many in the market take notice.
