Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King – Media Chinese International (Main Market)

The Media Chinese International Ltd is one of the largest media company in Asia. The company is a subsidiary of the Rimbunan Hijau Group that holds a 47.37% stake in the company. Rimbunan Hijau is the brainchild of Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King, one of the prominent timber tycoons in Malaysia who currently sits on the ninth spot of Malaysian top 40 richest list.
Primarily, Media Chinese International is a Chinese language media company which is chaired by Tan Sri Tiong himself and is the result of the Ming Pao Enterprise Corporation Limited Hong Kong together with 2 of Malaysia’s major newspaper companies, Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad and Nanyang Press Holdings Berhad.

By publishing Sin Chew Jit Poh and Nanyang Siang Pau, it controls the most market share among Chinese newspapers in Malaysia. Under the group, it publishes a total of 5 paid daily newspapers that are produced in 15 different editions. Circulation are recorded at 1 million copies daily.

That is not all as the company has achieved much success overseas most notably in the United States where it publishes 2 free dailies and more than 30 magazine titles. On top of that, it also operates various online news portals around the world covering the United States in San Francisco and New York to Asia and China.

Tan Sri Tiong took over Sin Chew Media in 1988 and then proceeded to buy Hong Kong’s Ming Pao Enterprise Corporation Limited in 1995. This directly meant that Tan Sri Tiong owns the Daily News which are also distributed in Vancouver and Toronto in Canada. In 1997, Ming Pao Enterprise expanded into New York and 7 years later, to San Francisco. The One Media Group was established in 2005 where Media Chinese International owns a 73.18% share. Apart from the 2 anchor newspapers, Media Chinese Limited also publishes China Press, the evening edition daily as well as the free Guang Ming Daily.
